Fall is upon us and this is my favorite season! Being inspired by the cool, refreshing air that smells of change earthy colors anew, I have created some new business cards for my company TAWNYAGENE. So with creative license in hand I have created 2 looks. We have two main target audiences here at TAWNYAGENE; corporate and artistic. Can you guess which business card is for who? fear of crêpes no more…

thanks to my friend’s (Janice) encouragement I have been able to master crêpes! they really are easy! two huge tips: 1. make sure the pan is hot on medium-high heat 2. only use a 1/4 cup of batter and swirl around on the bottom of the pan!

makes 18, 9″ crêpes

ingredients:

• 1.5 cups flour

• 3 eggs

• 3/4 cup milk

• 3/4 cup water

• 3/8 tsp. salt

• 3 tbl. melted butter

steps:

1. mix all the ingredients together with a whisk until all the lumps disappear

2. heat a 9″ non-stick skillet hot on medium-high heat*

3. use 1/4 cup to scoop the batter into the pan

4. pour batter into the pan and swirl until the bottom is coated

5. cook until bubbles are gone and the top looks “dry”

6. check to see if bottom is lightly brown, if it is, flip it

7. cook other side to desired color (once the other side is lightly browned it is really cooked all the way through)

8. place cooked crêpe in a pan and cover with a moist paper towel place in warm oven (lowest setting that your oven will go) until all the remaining crêpes are cooked and ready to serve

(important to keep paper towel moist or crêpes will dry out)*

top as desired, sweet or savory and enjoy!

for those of you who live in denver and have been anywhere near park meadows you know that ikea opened july 27th. i was lucky enough to have been invited to the soft opening! (thank-you again gretchen! i still owe you lunch) the pictures below of the real opening day were sent to me by my friend (gretchen) who as you have guessed works at ikea. it was CRAZY!!! even a month later it is still super busy and crowded. and to make matters worse people walk around with their mouths open and look like they are walking through a museum. (or even much worse, they stop in the middle of the walk path and talk very loudly on the phone, “guess where i am???…”) well even that has not stopped me from going back multiple times. and i need to go again!

having gone multiple times and some advice of friends (thanks ann marie and gretchen again). i have some very useful tips!:

• go on line to their website and look and see what they have and make a list
• take pictures with your phone of the areas that you are planning to buy for so you can match colors and patterns
• bring a piece of paper and a pen
• if you can, go on a weekday about 2pm (least busy time)
• stop at the ikea kiosk on the bottom floor before you enter the store and get a frequent buyer card so you can be alerted to specials and coupons
• the show floor and restaurant are on the second floor and often is the most crowded of the two floors
• when you are on the show floor write down the item numbers of the items that you want
• then go to the bottom floor and pick up your items by the item numbers in the self service area
• if you have large items or many items they have a service for ikea to pick up the items from the self service area and then ikea will deliver it to your house for you. all you have to do is go to the service station in front of isle 17 make your order and then go to the front and pay. ($49 for them to go pick the items from the self service area and $69 for them to deliver it to your house!!!)
• as you are entering the store if you turn immediately to your right and look all the way to the end you will see the “as is” section. this is an area in which there are items that are a little damaged. they are marked down 50%.
• when you are ready to leave, they have many exits that are closed off in the parking garage(don’t know why? maybe to have better traffic flow) but if you put on your hazard lights they will know you want to leave and the attendants will point you to the nearest exit!
• and the last tip, be careful not to get overly crazy with pattern and color as i did on my first trip. after i was done it looked like ikea exploded in my house. thus the many return trips to exchange things to tone it all down!

studio projects…

i have been working hard on my visual journal of last year’s Europe trip. i hand bound this journal at the art retreat that I attended earlier this year, Artfest 2011. the class was “My Big time Journal” from LK Ludwig. i used two record album covers for the covers of this journal. i have all (1,000 pictures that I took on the trip) already laid out in the journal (thanks Dawn, it was a good time!), along with the ephemera from the trip. now it’s just down to the journaling and doodling. when I have it completed I will share some of the spreads inside. maybe I will even make a little movie so you can see the whole thing! :-0

24 years today and still counting, love you muppy!

it seems that once a year i have to get my freak on, get really organized, clean my studio and throw out a bunch of things. it feels really good to do this. but, after it’s all done i always feel like it’s the day after christmas.

i know… right?
